Martha Curtis, an aged lady, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. David Parsons, one and a half miles north of Letts early Tuesday morning. She was a native of the state New York, born in Steuben county, December 11, 1823, being a little less than 78 years of age at the time of her death. Martha Curtis, an aged lady, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. David Parsons, one and a half miles north of Letts early Tuesday morning. She was a native of the state New York, born in Steuben county, December 11, 1823, being a little less than 78 years of age at the time of her death. In 1840 she was united in marriage with Thomas M[ontgomery] Curtis, her maiden name being Skutt. She was the mother of ten children, eight of whom are living. Samuel, of Blue Mound, Kansas; Mary Ann Hutchinsen, of Haverhill, Kansas; Albert, of Bayard, Ia.; John, of Grandview, Ia.; Thomas, Ella, Ollie, and Minnie, of Letts. While quite young she professed religion and joined with the M. E. church and lived a faithful Christian life until called to her reward. The latter years of her life were years cf suffering yet she was patient and simply waited for the summons to go and be with the Master. Her funeral conducted by her pastor was held from the Methodist church, attended by a large number of relatives and acquaintances." END AND "LETTS. Letts, Oct. 17. The funeral of Mrs. T[homas] M[ontgomery] Curtis [nee Martha C. Skutt] was held Wednesday from the M. E. church at 2 o'clock p. m., Rev.; Pool officiating. Interment at the Lettsville cemetery. Mrs. Curtis was near 78 years of age, had been a Christian since her youth and was highly esteemed by those who knew her best."
