Mrs. (Martha Catherine Harvey) Coop was born in Virginia, March 21, 1851, and passed away at the age of 88 years, one month and 19 days. Read More	WELL-KNOWN LOPEZ LADY IS SUMMONED Mrs. R.J. Coop, well known resident of Lopez Island, passed away May 10, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Rev. and Mrs. W.W. Goodrow. Mrs. (Martha Catherine Harvey) Coop was born in Virginia, March 21, 1851, and passed away at the age of 88 years, one month and 19 days. She was the youngest of a family of ten children, all of whom have preceded her in death except one sister, Mrs. Nellie Bixby of Spanaway Washington. When a small child she moved with her parents to Iowa, locating near Sigourney, where she grew to womanhood and where on January 21, 1881 she was united in marriage to Reuben J. Coop, and later made their home in Grinnell, Iowa. In 1885 they move to western Kansas where together they shared the hardships of pioneer life. Two daughters were born to this union, one dying in infancy, and the other Mrs. W.W. Goodrow, of Port Stanley, with whom she has made her home since the death of her husband, December 17, 1924. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for many years and a devout believer in the word. Besides her daughter and sister she leaves three step sons, J.E & A.S. Coop of Grinnell, Iowa and W.A. Coop to of Hartington, Nebraska; 18 grandchildren also great- grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. McIvor of Friday Harbor and, her selection of text and songs were carried out as requested. Many beautiful flowers by the family and friends gave mute evidence of the esteem with which she was held in the community. From the "Friday Harbor Journal - date of death May 10, 1939"
