Ruth Junkins Married Gazaway Harvey in Virginia and they had 9 Children, all born in Hampshire Co., ( now Mineral Co., WV ) on the plantation of the father of Ruth. They came to Iowa in 1854, lived in half the log cabin of another brother of Gazaway ( not James Harvey, who came one year later ) that first winter in Iowa. Catherine Martha Harvey b. 21 Mar 1851 Ruth died in 1856 and Gazaway married a second time on 4 November 1860, Mahala Nelson from Illinois, and they had just one daughter: Ruth's burial place is not known. She may be buried in Johnson Cemetery. 10. Hester J. Harvey b. 1863 The oldest daughter of Ruth and Gazaway, "Nellie" (Mary Ellen), wrote the history of her family going back to her grandfather, Benjamin Junkins in her ninetieth year. I am fortunate to have a short section of this history sent to me by one of her direct descendants, Janette Bennett of Vancouver, Washington, which I will include along with a few short bits of family information. Notes on the family of Benjamin and his plantation: Benjamin was a plantation owner in Hampshire County. He had no slaves but hired servants inside and outside of the home. They lived by the Turnpike coming from Piedmond, West Virginia (now Mineral Co.) and during the Civil War the armies from both sides came and required supplies and equipment, sometimes even in the same day. We know he visited relatives in Iowa in 1862 and Nellie went back in 1863 with him to Virginia, so we know he was living at that time, then in 1874 Jane and the children all went to Iowa to be near other Harvey families. There was a stone house, with a second story veranda all around the house, on this plantation. Mary Ellen "Nellie" was Benjamin's granddaughter. Mary Elizabeth Jane Junkins married James B. Harvey in Virginia. They had no children, and came to Iowa in 1855 a year after Gazaway and Ruth and family came. Ruth Junkins married Gazaway Harvey in Virginia and they had 9 children, all born in Hampshire County, on the plantation of the father of Ruth. They came to Iowa in 1854, lived in half the Iog cabin of another brother of Gazaway -NOTE: ( Could the brother be Hezekiah ?
