Ferry This Morning Passed Away At Home of Son in Waterloo; Had Been Ill For a Month Mrs. Martha Ferry, one of the older residents of this vicinity both in age and in years of residence here, died this (Thursday) morning at 7 o’clock at the home of her son, Roy Ferry in Waterloo, where she had received care the past two weeks. Death was attributed to heart which she had been bedfast for a month. She was 83 years old at the time of her passing. Born in 1866 As Martha Angel she was born to John and Sarah Angel Dec. 3, 1866, in Athens county, Ohio. When she was six years old she moved to Wisconsin with her parents and when 18 years of age she came to La Porte City and with the exception of a few years this vicinity remained her home until death. In 1887 she was united in marriage to Frank Ferry at Oneida where they lived for several years before returning to this vicinity to farm. Sixteen years ago they moved into town, where Mr. Ferry died nine years ago. Also preceding her in death were one son and four brothers and two sisters. She is survived by two sons, Roy Ferry of Waterloo and Ralph Ferry of Dakota City; two grandchildren and one half sister, Mrs. C.C. Harvey of Chicago. Church Member Mrs. Ferry was a member of the Evangelical church since her youth and was faithful in attendance as long as her health and age permitted. The body was brought to the Johannsen funeral home here this morning. No funeral arrangements have yet been made. Progress Review, La Porte City, Iowa Thursday, June 16, 1949, Page 1 Last Rites Held Here Sunday for Mrs. Martha Ferry Last rites for Mrs. Martha Ferry, who died at the home of her son Roy Ferry in Waterloo Thursday morning, June 9 were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Evangelical United Brethren church, of which she was a member. Rev. M.E. Shank, pastor of the church officiated and music was furnished by Mrs. M.E. Shank and Miss Korene Stahnke who sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Going Down the Valley”. They were accompanied by Mrs. Paul Davison. Out of town relatives who came for the funeral were from Dakota City, Waterloo, Oneida and Cherokee.
