She grew to young womanhood in her native home. On November 9, 1869, she was married to Michael D. Burk. To this union was born twelve children of whom eleven survive her. The eleven living children are, Mrs. Mary Schwartz, Mrs. Marths Trainer, Chas. G., Miss. Katherine, Elwin M., Mrs. Ella Sturgeon, all of Eureka; Lewis B. of ElDorado; Wm. L. of Deadwood, South Dakota; Shement P. of Nisland, South Dakota,; Eugene J. of Faith, South Dakota; and Fredrick A. of Cassaday, Kansas. Her husband preceded her in death in July 6, 1910, also one little daughter Anna Rose. Twenty six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren survive her. Shortly after her marriage she moved with her husband to Lawrence, Kansas. Three months later they moved to Greenwood County, Kansas, where she has made her home most of the time since. She often recalled the days of the Civil War with the excitement and hardships. She remembered this country as a vast prairie. She often remarked that she could have carried all of the stock of any store in town on her back. Everything had to be freighted from Emporia or Humboldt by wagon and oxen. She often spoke of visiting indian camps and how the Indians often visited her. Hosts of friends mourn her loss. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and died fortified with all the rites of the church. Funeral service was conducted Saturday morning at Sacred Heart Church by Father H.I. Canning. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery. From Eureka Herald 22 November 1928 page 8.
