Description	:	WALTON, MARTHA HANNAH—Mrs. Martha Walton, one of Fillmore county's early residents, passed away at her home in Geneva Saturday morning. Martha Hannah Walton, widow of the late Benjamin F. Walton, was the daughter of Fillmore county pioneers. Her parents, Aaron McPherson and Elvina Elizabeth Jones, emigrated from Iowa Falls, Ia., to a farm eight miles southeast of Geneva in the fall of 1872. Read More	WALTON, MARTHA HANNAH—Mrs. Martha Walton, one of Fillmore county's early residents, passed away at her home in Geneva Saturday morning. Martha Hannah Walton, widow of the late Benjamin F. Walton, was the daughter of Fillmore county pioneers. Her parents, Aaron McPherson and Elvina Elizabeth Jones, emigrated from Iowa Falls, Ia., to a farm eight miles southeast of Geneva in the fall of 1872. There on December 2, 1873, in a soddy dugout she started her long and useful life. In 1882 her parents moved to Geneva, where she was graduated from Geneva high school. She was married in 1893 and subsequently became the mother of three sons, Glen F. of Rupert, Idaho, Gerald and Gale of Geneva, Neb. In early life she joined the Free Will Baptist church of Geneva. Mattie, as she was familiarly known among her many friends and associates, was for many years a telephone operator, having worked as the first night operator for the Fillmore County Pioneer Telephone Company, the Bell Telephone Company, the Independent Telephone Company, and the Lincoln Telephone & Telegraph Company until her retirement in 1923. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Rebekah lodge, of which she was a past noble grand, Royal Neighbors of America, serving as recorder for many years, and a charter member of the Jolly neighbors, the west side Kensington that is one of Geneva's oldest civic clubs. In her final illness she was provided with the best care that medical science could offer. But as it is written, "One must soon be cut down by the all devouring scythe of time," she answered her summons in the early hours of January 14, 1950, at the age of 78 years, 1 month and 12 days. Preceding her in death besides her husband were her parents, two brothers, Oliver and Ezra, and two sisters, Lucia and Mae. Left to mourn her demise besides her three sons and their wives Hilda, Ruby and Helen, are two sisters, Leona Mogensen of Burlingame, Cal., and Geneva Stanley of Greenwood, Ind., six grandsons, one granddaughter, three great-grandchildren, and three brother-in-law, Marion Walton of Geneva, Charles Dehning of Aberdeen, Wash., and George Stanley of Greenwood, Ind., other relatives and many, many friends. Services were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday, January 17, at the Kritner funeral home. Rev. William G. Bohi officiated. Dr. J. Q. Adams sang "Now the Day is Over" and "The End of a Perfect Day," accompanied by Miss Florence Humphrey. The Rebekah lodge conducted the graveside service. Pallbearers were Glen, Gerald, Gale, George, Gerard and Marion Walton. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery beside her husband. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Walton of Ruppert, Idaho, Mrs. Geneva Stanley of Greenwood, Ind., Mr. and Mrs. George Walton, Gerard Walton and Dr. Henry Sole and son Harlan of Denver were among those at the services.
