Description	:	Martha Jane (Ferguson) Swingle Fravel, daughter of James W. and Martha Maxey Ferguson, was born November 15, 1840 in Knox County, Illinois and died October 12, 1924. Martha J. Ferguson was born in Knox County, Illinois the 15th of November 1840; died October 12, 1924, aged 83 years, 10 months, and 27 days. She is survived by six children, twenty-two grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She was married to John G. Swingle at Knoxville, Illinois the 28th of May 1859. Ferguson was born in Knox County, Illinois the 15th of November 1840; died October 12, 1924, aged 83 years, 10 months, and 27 days. She is survived by six children, twenty-two grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She was married to John G. Swingle at Knoxville, Illinois the 28th of May 1859. To this union were born six children. Those surviving are Ida M. Wills, Nellie Peck of Delong, Illinois, Andrew P. of Johnsville, California. Preceding her in death were Frank, aged two years, Clyde aged 3 months, Carrie passing away at Pasadena, California, April 5, 1924, aged 55 years. She with Mr. Swingle moved to Montgomery County, Iowa in 1859 being one of the first families of Villisca. Mr. Swingle passed away August 27, 1869. She was again united in marriage to James W. Fravel, January 21, 1873. to this union were born four children, Arthur of Colome, South Dakota, Glen of Fr. Pierce, South Dakota, Mattie Kernen of Nodaway. Thomas died February 27, 1891, aged 15 years. Mr. Fravel died June 23, 1898. She was a member of the Methodist Church most of her life. A member of the Women's Relief Corps, thirty-five years. Darling mother the journey over, Safely she rests at the Master's side. Patiently there she will wait and watch, To welcome us over the surging tide. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the Methodist Church in Nodaway. Rev. Paul H. Hicks delivering the sermon. The W. R. C. of which she was a faithful member had charge of the latter part of the services. The singing was by a male quartet. Mrs. Fravel was a worthy and highly respected citizen in her active years did much for the betterment of the community for which she will be long remembered.
