For two adults to pass away within little more than twelve hours in the same home is unusual, yet that has been the sad experience of the inmates of the household of Alonzo King, a half mile from Larwill. Sunday evening, Martha Goodrich, who had been assisting in nursing and caring for Mr. King, while seemingly in perfect health, quickly passed away, and the morning after, Mr. King's death followed, and the house is truly a house of mourning. The sudden death of Miss Martha Goodrich at the Lon King home came as an awful shock to the residents of Larwill, as she had been working all day Sunday doing those things which have to be done where there is sickness and she was in her usual good health. She had from time to time suffered from attacks of heart trouble, and Sunday evening shortly before seven o'clock she walked out onto the porch and complained of shortness of breath. Mrs. Lon King suggested that she take a fan and fan herself, but at about the same time she collapsed. Willing hands fanned her and every effort was made to give her relief. Dr. Tennant was summoned but within a few minutes after his arrival, she passed out of this life. Martha Goodrich was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Price Goodrich and was born in Troy township, May 4th, 1845, and was 67 years, 3 months and 1 day old at the time of her death. She had made her home for some time with her sister, Mrs. Scott Barber, of Larwill, and was a devout, Christian woman. She early became identified with the Methodist church and in her death is recorded the passing of a pure and upright soul. The deceased is survived by one sister, Mrs. Scott Barber, and by two brothers, Silas Goodrich, of Loon Lake and Chauncey Goodrich, of Wheatland, Wyoming. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon, the cortage leaving the house at 1:30 for the Methodist church, where Rev. E. E. Wright will preach the sermon, and the interment will be in the Adams cemetery in Troy township.
