Petersen, Jr. Martha Jansen Petersen was born November 18, 1859, at Hattstadt, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jansen. As a young girl she emigrated to America where she was married to Ben Petersen on November 6, 1884, at Onslow, Iowa. After farming in that vicinity for three years, they lived on farms in Ida and Woodbury counties until they retired to Anthon in 1911. The Petersen's "home place" was east of Anthon near Midway, the farm now occupied by their son, Jens. In 1920, Mr. and Mrs. Petersen moved to Battle Creek where they made their home until May 1945. Since then they lived with their daughters, Mrs. Dick Albers and Mrs. Oscar Goodman. Mrs. Petersen was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. Survivors include the widower of Battle Creek, four sons, Peter of Correctionville, Thomas of Anthon, Jens of Correctionville and John of Danbury, two daughters, Mrs. Laura Albers of Battle Creek and Mrs. Ella Goodman of Correctionville, 25 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. She was preceded by a son, Henry, in 1939 and her only brother, Andrew Jansen.
