Petersen, Sr., 84, of Anthon died Monday, October 22, 1984, in a nursing home in Ida Grove after a short illness. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 25, in the United Methodist Church in Anthon with Rev. John Oren officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery under direction of Walter Funeral Home. He was born July 30, 1900, on a farm near Anthon to Ben and Martha (Jansen) Petersen. He married Elta Barger December 22, 1922, in Des Moines. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary last December. They farmed in the Anthon community for forty years and retired to town in 1963. He later worked for Jeff O'Connell Feed Store for about seven years. He served as school board director for rural schools in Morgan Township and was a township committeeman for the ASC. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Paul's Church in Midway but joined the Anthon Methodist Church as an adult. Survivors include his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Martha) Hanson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, three sons, John Jr., of Danbury, Walter of Anthon and Benjie of Correctionville, one brother, Jens of Anthon, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
