Description	:	Services for Martha Kaplan Burdick, 90, formerly of Verdel, Creighton, Stuart, and Neligh, will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Norfolk. Dr. Terry Bowland, minister, will officiate, with burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Norfolk. Visitation will be Sunday, 3-8 p.m., at the Johnson-Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Mrs. Burdick, who was the mother of Mrs. Willard (Mardell) Johnson of Norfolk, died Wednesday, Nov 26, 1992, at Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek. She was born June 1, 1902, on a farm near Verdel to the late Karel and Barbara (Pospisil, b May 1867) Kaplan. She graduated from Verdel High School, attended Wayne State Normal School for two years and taught in rural schools for two years. She married Gail Burdick of Creighton on June 11, 1924, at Burke, S.D. They lived in Creighton for 10 years, then for the next 17 years owned and operated grocery stores in Stuart and Neigh. Later they moved to the Verdel area where they resided for 35 years. In 1988, they moved to Creighton where Mr. Burdick died June 2, 1992. Mrs. Burdick had lived at Community Pride Care Center, Battle Creek, since that time. She was a member of the Verdel Presbyterian Church, was a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary at Verdel, was a past worthy matron and secretary for 16 years of Ionic Chapter No. 172, Order of the Eastern Star of Niobrara, and served three years as OES grand representative for Nebraska in Minnesota. She is survived by one daughter and her husband, Willard and Mardell Johnson of Norfolk; five grandchildren; and nine great--grandchchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Memorial managed by 8th cousin
