Description	:	Thurs., April 24, 1919 Indianola Herald Martha Kathryn Kepley was born at Spring Hill, Iowa, November 13, 1870, and died April 8, 1919, at Mercy hospital, Des Moines, Iowa, aged forty-eight years, four months and twenty-six days. She was married to W.H. Garrett at Ogden, Utah, October 16, 1891. To this union was born two daughters, Harriet L., and Nicy Ruth, (Ruth dying November 6, 1918.) Read More	Thurs., April 24, 1919 Indianola Herald Martha Kathryn Kepley was born at Spring Hill, Iowa, November 13, 1870, and died April 8, 1919, at Mercy hospital, Des Moines, Iowa, aged forty-eight years, four months and twenty-six days. She was married to W.H. Garrett at Ogden, Utah, October 16, 1891. To this union was born two daughters, Harriet L., and Nicy Ruth, (Ruth dying November 6, 1918.) She was united with the Baptist church of Spring Hill over thirty years ago and remained a member until the time of her death. She had passed a disposition of remarkable cheer, being a faithful follower of Christ. During her many years of residence at Spring Hill it is evident her first and constant thought was the welfare of others. Not a home in all this neighborhood but she had visited to bring cheer and helpfulness in time of need. This is vital christianity, whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple shall in no way lose the reward. This good mother was fully conscious to the last moment, following her operation seemingly as with a quickened insight to realize that she was sure to depart and yet she evidenced no fear for she was ready to go for she had suffered so much. She told her daughter, Harriet who was with her to the last, not to weep—for she was so tired, so tired. These were her last words. She leaves to mourn her loss her aged mother, also three brothers, Will, John and Morris and one sister, Mrs. Jeff Burnett, one daughter, Harriet and two grandsons. "Lord help us live from day to day In such a self-forgetting way That even when I kneel to pray My prayer may be of others. Help me in all the work I do To even be sincere and true And know that all I do for you Must need be done for others. May self be crucified and slain And burial deep and all in vain May efforts be to rise again Except to live for others. Others, Lord, yes others May this my motto be Help me to live for others That I may live like three." The funeral services were held from the family home near Spring Hill and interment made in the Webb cemetery. F.E. Volck, pastor of the First Baptist church of Indianola, officiating. Relatives and friends present were, Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Kepley of Des Moines; Mrs. Cyrus Fisel of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Burnett and daughter, Helen and son John of Colfax, Iowa, Mrs. George Myers and children of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reed and son Richard of Valley Junction. A beautiful profusion of flowers covered the casket. # # # Thurs., April 10, 1919 Indianola Herlad Spring Hill – Mrs. Kate Garrett was taken to Mercy hospital Wednesday and operated on for a growth. Pneumonia developed, causing her death Tuesday morning at 7 o'clock.
