Martha was born Aug. 3, 1920, in Eddyville to Edward and Berniece (Carr) Miller. She attended school in Eddyville and graduated from Eddyville High School in 1938. She then attended Kearney Normal School. She traveled to and from college riding the “Motor” from Eddyville to Kearney and back on weekends. She taught school at Capitol Hill Rural School south of Miller for two years. She met Russell Whitesel, who was on the school board at the time, and they were married on May 9, 1942, in Hastings. To this union, three children were born, James, Deanna and Patricia. Martha was active in several community organizations such as the H.O.A. Club (Help Others Always) and the H.O.P. Club (Help Other People) and was an active member in the United Methodist Church in Miller and United Methodist Women. Russell and Martha were youth leaders for many years. Martha lived on the family farm until 1993. When her husband’s health required him to be in Christian Homes, she moved to Holdrege to be near him. Martha is survived by her son, Jim Whitesel and his wife, Carol; daughters, Pat Fulmer and her husband, Kim and Deanna Cline and her husband, Johnny; four grandsons; five granddaughters; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mildred Whitesel and Esther Miller; and nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, and one brother, Marvin Miller. Memorials are suggested to Miller United Methodist Church. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
