At her confirmation, in the presence of the Church Above and the church on earth, the Bishop invoked the blessing of the Spirit upon her, asking that she might be strengthened day by day until she entered into rest. Those who have known her through life all testify how she walked worthy of her high calling. Her Christianity was not meaningless; it carried with it sincerity in the literal signification of the word. Her life was a shining light, and the radiance that played in her pathway increased "more and more unto the perfect day." Her high ideal was Christ. She kept the example of her Savior before her, and His life was that which it was her one and only desire to imitate. To any one who saw her and associated with her, it was very manifest that the Christ-like qualities were pre-eminently hers. How gentle in manner she was! How kind! How her sympathy went out to the distressed! How charitable to the sick and suffering! How careful she was for the feelings of others! How ready to excuse the faults and errors of persons when spoken o in her presence! She never passed harsh judgment, but always hoped for the best, while a gentle word might be heard falling from her lips. Her love to Christ was not only exemplified in the sweet traits that have been enumerated, but she allowed the affection for her Savior to be seen in the love she had for His spouse, the Church of God. It was here that she was so much interested. She loved the Church because she loved and followed her Lord. At the service she was always present, except when impossible for her to attend. Her fervor in the Sunday School, in the choir, and her generous aid to the various offerings presented, all spoke eloquently in her behalf. Of the societies of the Parish she was an active member and did what she could; and for years had been the faithful and untiring treasurer of The Ladies Aid Association. By the Church, as well as those whose lives were intimately blended with hers, she will be sadly missed. During the closing weeks of her sickness, it was comforting to all to see how patient she was and how bravely she was meeting death. She murmured not at the sufferings through which she passed, but trusting in her loving Redeemer awaited the time when the message would come. When the last moments arrived, surrounded by a few of those near to her, and by the writer, who for ten years past had been her Rector, the commendatory prayer was offered and in a few moments more, the soul passed from its earthly tenement to Mansions on High. The funeral took place from St. Peter's on Wednesday morning, the 19th. Numerous floral testimonials were brought and laid upon her casket by those who came and looked for the last time upon the one they admired and loved. In the presence of a large congregation, the last rites of the church were read, and after a short discourse by the writer, in which the faithfulness and steadfastness of her Christian life were emphasized, the body was borne to and placed in the Old Monocacy cemetery by the side of her sainted father and mother.
