JN)- - - - - - -After the death of her mother at age 10 and her father at age 12, Martha and her siblings were taken in by their maternal grandfather. They moved north to Berry County, Arkansas and then to the Springfield Missouri area. Grandfather died when Martha was 16. 6 years later in 1875 she is listed in a household in Osage County Kansas, age 19, probably employed as a nanny. Her future husband lived 5 miles distant. Miss Arnold married Mr. Greenfield on September 27, 1876. The license was issued in Douglas County, Kansas. The license lists her state of birth as Missouri.Charles and Martha owned a farm in far NW Franklin County. Her older brother Jacob owned a farm about 9 miles north in Douglas County. They raised 6 sons before the 1893 death of Charles. Charles A, Thomas Martin, Gus B, Clarence, Jacob William, and Jessie Bennett. The 1880 Census shows Charles mother Jessie B Greenfield living with them and a nephew JA Buckner. In 1895 Mrs. Greenfield married Mr Allgire in Osage County, Kansas. They remained in the Michigan Valley area until after the 1900 Federal Census. They moved to Arnett, Ellis County, Oklahoma. They may have followed or accompanied Mr. Allgire's brother Warren. Between 1920 and 1930 Mrs. Allgire moved back Osage County, in or near Agricola. She was cared for during her final illness by her Granddaughter Violet Greenfield, the youngest child of her 3rd son Gus. Miss Greenfield (Mrs. Shaffer) died in 1936 during childbirth and is buried next to her Grandmother. Violet Shaffer memorial # 30560907 Charles and Martha had 24 Grandchildren that lived to be adults.
