She moved with her family to Canistota, SD and grew up there. Martha graduated from Canistota High School. She then attended South Dakota Beauty School and received her diploma. She later taught at the Beauty School for several years. Martha was united in marriage with Gerald Polly on August 12, 1941 in South Sioux City, NE. Martha owned and operated Polly's Beauty Shop for 30 years before retiring in 1983. In retirement the couple owned Polly's Plants for 4 years. Martha was a member of Beaver Valley Lutheran Church, Ladies Circle, the Center for Active Generations and the Morrell's Retirement group. Martha enjoyed gardening, attending and helping with church functions, baking and spending time with her family and friends. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Gerald; four children, Gary Polly and his wife, Bonnie, Elk Horn, NE, Cheryl Hluchy and her husband, Michael, Sioux Falls, SD, David Polly and his wife, Maria, North Pole, AL, Beth Bott and her husband, Joe, Sioux Falls, SD; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Lloyd Tieszen, Salem, SD, James Tieszen, Loveland, CO, John Tieszen, Canistota, SD, Keith Tieszen; three sisters, Matilda Gleason, Mesa, AZ, Gladys Kittleson, San Jose, CA, Frances Tieszen, Santa Barbara, CA; and a host of other relatives and friends. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Arnold, Ralph, Joseph; and a sister, Adeline Ratzlaff.
