Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery. Martin Clark Smith was born May 16, 1875 in Floris, Iowa. He moved to Brooklyn with his parents when a small child. He had lived here all of his life with the exception of two years spent in California. In former years he worked at the masonry trade and for many years was custodian of the First Presbyterian Church and the Poweshiek County Savings Bank. On November 9, 1904 he married Iva Mabelle Baker who preceded him in death several years ago. He adopted two step daughters, Ellen and Beatrice. The latter preceded him in death. His only survivor is his step daughter Mrs James (Ellen) Hadaway of Seaside, California who arrived here Wednesday with his husband.
