Description	:	Martin Frank Kohinka was born in Solon, Johnson County, Iowa on November 10th. He went by his middle name, Frank. His death record states his birth year as 1871; however, the 1880 Census shows that he was 16 years old making his birth year about 1863. His father was Matthias Michael Kohinke and his mother was Katherine Forejt, both from Bohemia (Czechoslovakia). His death record states his birth year as 1871; however, the 1880 Census shows that he was 16 years old making his birth year about 1863. His father was Matthias Michael Kohinke and his mother was Katherine Forejt, both from Bohemia (Czechoslovakia). Frank had four sisters: Mary (Mrs. John Croften); Anna (Mrs. John Krob); Katherine (Mrs. Charles Rech); and Barbara (Mrs. George Washington Burns). His mother died in 1876 and his father married Mary Sladak who also had been previously married. Frank left Iowa and came to Humboldt County where he met and married Amelia Riecke of Trinidad on December 23, 1893 in Eureka, California. They first lived in Eureka in the Ryan's Slough area where their first child Harvey Dale was born in 1895. In 1900 they were living in Hydesville where he was working as a woodsman (chopper) and Amelia had given birth to two daughters: Edith Amelia and Bertha Helen. Three more children were born by 1911: Bud, Frank and Hazel Fay and the family had moved to the Scotia-Rio Dell area where Frank spent the rest of his life. Frank was a landlord and supplied rentals to the many wood workers at the Pacific Lumber Company who worked across the Eel River in Scotia. He owned the trailer court in Rio Dell that was known as Kohinkaville but it was removed to make way for the re-routed Highway 101 after the 1964 Flood. For several years Frank worked with his sons as a logging contractor. Frank died at the Scotia hospital.
