COON RAPIDS ENTERPRISE - Fri, Apr 27, 1923 - Martin H Anderson passed away at his home Friday afternoon April 20th. He had been in poor health for nearly a year but failed rapidly towards the end. All the kind care that could be given by his loved ones could not stay the grim reaper of death, which passed through the home on Friday afternoon and took a kind husband and father and a good neighbor, the first of a large family to leave for the great life beyond. He leaves to mourn his death his wife, four daughters and 7 sons, 23 grandchildren of which he was especially fond and 2 great grandchildren. All 7 sons were at his bedside at the time of his death. Mr Anderson was among the first to settle in Willow township, Greene county. Mr Anderson, being afflicted through life, did not mingle much with the outside world but was a this best at home, where a warm welcome always awaited his friend. Martin H Anderson was born in Techelwitz, Schleswig, Holstein, Germany on Dec 8th, 1850 and departed this life on April 20th, 1928 at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 12 days. He came to this country with his father and mother at the age of 16 years and moved on a farm near Grand Mound, Clinton county, Ia where he resided until he was united in marriage to Mrs Lisette Tanner in 1878. They moved to a farm near Arcadia, Carroll county, Ia where they lived until 1886, when they moved on their present farm where he resided until he was called to his eternal home. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and 11 children: Louise Lange of Wilton, ND; Sophia Cross of Dedham, IA; Minnie Jarnecke of Defiance, IA; Lizzie Herron, Herman, Louis, Martin, William, Walter, Henry, and Julius all of Coon Rapids; 23 grandchildren; 2 great grand children; and one brother of Arcadia, IA his only sister having been called by death exactly one year before him.
