Schulte, Thailand; two daughters: Linda Micka, Centennial, Colo., Mary Schulte, St. Charles; five granchildren. Services at 11 a.m. Thurs., May 25, in Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg. Interment in the Holy Family Cemetery. Visitation from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Obituary in Unterrified Democrat - May 31, 2006 edition: Martin Henry Schulte, 99, of Freeburg, died May 22, 2006 at the Maries Manor Nursing Home in Vienna. He was born on a farm south of Freeburg on Feb 14, 1907. He was the son of Henry and Caroline Wieberg Schulte. At the time of his death, Mr. Schulte was the oldest living native of Freeburg and would have been 100 years of age on Valentine's Day, 2007. His home in Freeburg, the oldest house in town, was originally the home of Engelbert Franke, an original settler and storekeeper of Freeburg. Mr. Schulte attended the Freeburg school and worked as a truck driver for Ben Fechtel. In the 1920's he was the fire chief in Freeburg and also the city marshal. In World War II he served as a machinist mate in the US Navy and graduated from aviation school. After the was he raised his family in St. Louis, where he worked for Barrett Equipment Co. and later was maintenance supervisor for the City of St. Louis. He retired at Freeburg and lived there until entering Victorian Gardens in Vienna in 2003. After moving back to Freeburg he became very active in the affairs of Holy Family Parish, serving as Sacristan for 24 years - from 1978 to 2002. He also handled the bell ringing responsibility before the installation of electric bells. On Aug 21, 1943, he was married in Oklahoma to Margaret Mary Nally, of Chicago, Ill. She preceded him in death on Oct 26, 1977. Survivors include two daughters, Linda A. Micka of Centennial, CO., and Mary R. Schulte of St. Louis; a son Martin V. Schulte of Naklua, Thailand. There were 5 grandchildren. Mr. Schulte was preceded in death by siblings Fred Schulte of St. Louis, Louis Schulte of Fulton, Henry A. Schulte and Emil Schulte of Freeburg, Edward Schulte of Mexico, Lucy Eisterhold of Rich Fountain, and Pauline Klebba of Westphalia. The funeral Mass was held at Holy Family Church on May 25, with Rev. Bill Peckman, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Parish cemetery.
