Description	:	Martin Anderson, 78, a resident of Hawarden about 50 years, died Saturday at the Hawarden Hospital where he had been a patient two weeks. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Monday at the Barnard Funeral Home with the Rev. M.D. Johnson of Nathaniel Lutheran Church of Alcester officiating. Mrs. Ralph Gregg, Jr., with Mrs. Hal Shoemaker as accompanist, sang "My God and I" and "Open the Gates of the Temple." Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. Mr. Anderson, a retired railroad man, had lived the past year and a half in the home of his nephew, Lawrence Anderson, at Alcester. His daughter, Mrs. L.E. Murphy of Denver, Colorado, a registered nurse, came to care for him while he was in the hospital. His son Merle of Cedar Falls were also here. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Anderson, he was born September 29, 1876, at Norman, Iowa. He moved to Alcester when a boy. Later he came to Hawarden and was employed in the North Western yards as car repair foreman until he retired in 1943. He married Mary Mogster of Sioux Rapids, in September. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Hawarden and was a shiner. At the time he was active in the Odd Fellows Lodge. After he went to Alcester to live with his nephew he joined the Nathaniel Lutheran Church. While he lived in Hawarden, he and his family were affiliated with the Associated Church. He is survived by three children, Mrs. L.E. Murphy of Denver, Colorado, Mrs. R.W. Law of San Lorenzo, California, and Merle of Cedar Falls, Iowa. A niece and nephew of Mr. Anderson, Mrs. Heinz Renken of Arco, Minnesota, and Donald Anderson of Madison, Wisconsin, were also raised in his home. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Penning of Bloomer, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Myrtle Abbey of Witten, South Dakota; four brothers, Carl and Emil, both of Hawarden, John of Las Vegas, and Ingwald of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and seven grandchildren.
