Description	:	"Death of Centenarian" Martin Duffy passed away at his home at advanced age of 100 years. Welton, IA, Feb 18, Sunday at 9am at his home in Welton Township, occurred the death of Martin Duffy, who celebrated 100th birth anniversary on the 9th day of last November. Deceased was born in Ireland and came to this country in 1839, settling on a farm in Indiana, where he remained until 1850, then came to Clinton County and purchased of the government the farm on which he died and which was in his possession for fifty years. Welton, IA, Feb 18, Sunday at 9am at his home in Welton Township, occurred the death of Martin Duffy, who celebrated 100th birth anniversary on the 9th day of last November. Deceased was born in Ireland and came to this country in 1839, settling on a farm in Indiana, where he remained until 1850, then came to Clinton County and purchased of the government the farm on which he died and which was in his possession for fifty years. Soon after coming here he returned to Indiana, where he remained a couple of years, then returned to his farm in Welton township. He is survived by ten children as follows: Mrs. Andrew Buckley of Clinton, Mrs John Crowley of Welton township, Mrs William Frederick of Bloomfield township, Mrs Patrick Crowley at home, and Thomas and Michael of Vail, IA; Joseph of Salix; Martin who is in the West; John of Welton township; and Byron at home. Mrs. Duffy died about two years ago after short illness. Deceased has been in poor health during the larger part of the winter and for the past few weeks had been dangerously ill. His condition was critical for a number of days before the end came, and on account of the vast age of deceased his system was unable to withstand the ravages of disease. Mr Duffy was well known in this county and was universally respected. He was a valuable citizen, a most agreeable neighbor and will be greatly missed in Welton township, where he was a familiar figure for a number of years. Up to the time of his death, Clinton County boasted of two centenarians and in this respect was, perhaps, ahead of any county in the United States. The funeral services will be held from St. Mary's Church at Deep Creek, at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning, followed by interment in St. Mary's Cemetery. -- Tri Weekly Herald, Clinton IA, Tuesday 2/19/1901
