Description	:	Martin P. Cordell, age 86, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at a local care center. Martin P. Cordell was born on June 22, 1922 to Frank and Mary (Hallauer) Cordell in Codington County, South Dakota. He went to country school northeast of Watertown and then attended Holy Rosary Catholic School in Kranzburg, SD for eight years. On April 23, 1945 he married Jessie Gosmire in Kranzburg, SD. Cordell, age 86, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at a local care center. Martin P. Cordell was born on June 22, 1922 to Frank and Mary (Hallauer) Cordell in Codington County, South Dakota. He went to country school northeast of Watertown and then attended Holy Rosary Catholic School in Kranzburg, SD for eight years. On April 23, 1945 he married Jessie Gosmire in Kranzburg, SD. The couple moved to a farm northeast of Watertown where they farmed until 1975. Martin and Jessie retired for one year, but returned to the farm in February of 1976 until 1981. He was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church. Martin enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; attending polka fests, and playing pinochle. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Tressie, Catherine and Cecelia; five brothers, Francis, Lawrence, Charles, Richard and Leslie; and three sons, Andrew, Martin and Howard Cordell; and his granddaughter, Deanne Teri. He is survived by his wife, Jessie; his children, Ralph (Caroline) Cordell of Sioux Falls, Ed (Vickie) Cordell of Stockton, CA, Kathleen Cordell of North Glenn, CO, John (Cathy) Cordell, of Watertown, Lucy (Larry) Hemiller of Riverbank, CA, Paul (Joe Steiner) Cordell and Steve Cordell of Watertown, Cecelia (Paul) Leiseth of Hazel, Patty (Monte) Kramer of Pierre, and Alvin (Sara) Cordell of Sioux Falls; his sisters, Agnes Gartzke of Eugene, OR, Josephine Brandriet of Waverly, SD and Mary Pester of Watertown; his 38 grandchildren; his 32 great grandchildren; and his one great-great grandchild. Funeral mass was held on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the Holy Name Catholic Church with Father John Lantsberger as Celebrant. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Pallbearers were his sons, Ed, John, Paul, Steve and Alvin and his son-in-law, Monte Kramer. Arrangements by Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Chapel.
