FUNERAL HELD MONDAY FOR PIONEER JAVA MAN Funeral services were held Monday, September 09, at 2 p.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Java for Martin Reiger, 86, long-time resident and well-known pioneer of the Java vicinity, who passed away in a Mobridge hospital on Wednesday evening, September 04. Services were conducted by the Reverend L A Westenberger and interment was made in St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery at Java. Martin Reiger was born October 05, 1959, at Hoffnungtal, South Russia, where he grew to young manhood. On December 10, 1881, he was united in marriage to Caroline Hofer at Kloestitz, South Russia. To this union, seven children were born, two daughters, Mary and Helen, preceding the father in death. In 1903 he came with his family to America, where they occupied a farm near Java for three years. In 1906, he moved to a farm of his own, south of Java, where he and his family resided until 1918, when his wife and daughter, Helen passed away. He retired from farm life and moved to Java, where some time later he was united in marriage with Fredericka Ebel of Herreid, who passed away in 1944. Since that time he had been residing alone. Recently he decided to enter the Lutheran Old People's Home at Eureka. However, while still at home he was stricken suddenly ill and was taken to a Mobridge hospital where he grew steadily weaker until about 6:30 p.m, Wednesday, September 04, when he succumbed at the age of 86 years, ten months and nine days. He is survived by five sons, Emanuel of Athboy, John of Meadow, Adolph born May 22, 1895, died December 04, 1962, at San Francisco, Adam and Bernard of Aberdeen.
