Description	:	***CIVIL WAR VETERAN*** Died. Mr. Martin Ross, was born in Wexford county, Ireland, November 30, 1825, and died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Moon, Lamoni, Iowa, March 25, 1902, aged 76 years, 3 months, and 25 days. He married in 1845, and one son and two daughters were born to them. Mr. Martin Ross, was born in Wexford county, Ireland, November 30, 1825, and died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Moon, Lamoni, Iowa, March 25, 1902, aged 76 years, 3 months, and 25 days. He married in 1845, and one son and two daughters were born to them. The family came to America in 1851, and his wife died in 1859. In 1861 he married again, and a daughter was born in 1862. On August 11, 1862, Comrade Ross enlisted in the Fifteenth Kentucky Infantry, and later he was in the Second Kentucky Cavalry, serving through the war, from Louisville, through Kentucky and Tennessee, and in 1864 in the battles of Kenesaw, Lookout, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, etc., going to the sea with Sherman in 1865. In 1861 his son, then aged fifteen years, enlisted and served through the war also. Both came out in 1865, and the family removed from Kentucky to Saint Louis, where in 1866 the son was killed by the caving of a gravel bank. In 1867 his second wife died. He enlisted in the regular army immediately after and served eight years as a guard at the St. Louis arsenal. Came out in 1875, and resided two years with his daughters in Delaware, where they still reside. In 1877 he went to Michigan to live with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Moon. With them in 1880 came to Decatur county, Iowa, where he has since resided until his death. He was an honest man, just in his dealings, a lover of peace, and having no quarrels with anyone; beloved by his children and grandchildren, and respected by all who knew him. He suffered much in his last illness but was tenderly cared for. Services were held at Mr. Moon's, Elder A. S. Cochran having charge, Elder O. B. Thomas offering prayer, and Elder H. A. Stebbins preaching the sermon. There was a large gathering. The Grand Army comrades acted as bearers, and held services at the grave. CARD OF THANKS. Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Moon and family desire to thank the G. A. R. Post and other friends, who so kindly assisted them during the sickness and death of their beloved father and grandfather. The attention given was fully appreciated and will always be remembered.
