Moon died Monday evening, June 20, at 6:45 o'clock at the age of 61 years, 3 months, and 7 days. Since last October she had been ill. Having caught a severe cold, her lungs became affected and tuberculosis accomplished its work. During the winter she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Etta McKim, that she might receive better care. There for the long weeks of sickness, she was carefully tended by the members of the family, who spared no pains to make her comfortable, and there she was when the end came. During all the long months she was patient in her suffering and bore her trial well. As the end drew nearer and she realized that she could not recover, she expressed her readiness to go. The latter part of her sickness was especially painful, but the end was without suffering. She quietly fell asleep. Mrs. Moon was reared in the Catholic faith and ever held that church most dear. She lived a life of quiet usefulness and kindness. She is spoken of as a good neighbor and many memories of her usefulness remain. Her husband and children have the memory of a wife and mother whose life was upright and who did what she could for others; one who, after living over thirty years in one community, is highly spoken of by all who knew her. Maggie Ross was born in Wexford, Ireland, March 13, 1848. Her parents came to this country when she was about two years old. Landing at New Orleans, they soon removed to Louisville, Kentucky, where the daughter resided until her marriage. This event took place June 9, 1864, when she married J. O. Moon, who had just finished his term of service in the Union army and who survives her. The two took up their residence in LaPorte, Indiana. Here they lived for over six years and here the two surviving children were born, Charles Moon and Mrs. Etta McKim. From LaPorte, the family moved to Allegan county, Michigan, and after nine years came to Harrison county, Missouri. After a residence of about four years in Missouri, they moved to Lamoni, where they have lived ever since, a period of thirty-one years. The son Fred, who died about two years ago, was born during this time. Another child, a daughter, was born during the residence in Michigan, but she, too, has passed away. Only two sisters remain of Mrs. Moon's own family, Mrs. Kate Leahy, of Wilmington, Delaware, and Mrs. Minnie France, of Chester, Pennslyvania, neither of whom are able to be present at this time. The funeral services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Etta McKim, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. R. M. Shipman officiating, and the body was laid away in Rose Hill cemetery.
