Rothrock, 79, pioneer Reno county farmer, died at a hospital at Stafford today. Bandits seeking a hidden money cache at his home near Sylvia hastened his death, physicians said. Mr. Rothrock was a grandfather of Mrs. Bernard Zuber, whose husband was critically injured in a motorcar accident at Kansas City several weeks ago. The aged man had been robbed annually for about six years by two women and a man who were never captured, relatives said. Each time they tortured him in an effort to make him tell where his money was hidden. Once they broke both his thumbs when they pulled him up from the floor with thongs fastened to them. Another time they hanged him by the neck. During the robbery several weeks ago, when he was robbed of $140, he was burned on the bottoms of his feet. After the torture, Rothrock walked several miles on his seared feet to the farm of his son. Infection that resulted caused his death. Relatives said they begged him to put his money in a bank but he refused to do so.
