He was the last of a family of ten children and was born in Jefferson County, Iowa, near Fairfield on January 4, 1852 and was 78 years old at his death. ROTH, 78, PIONEER CITIZEN Martin Van Buren Roth, pioneer resident of Villisca died Saturday at 9 p.m. at his home on West Fifth Street, his death resulting from old age complications after an illness of four weeks. He was the last of a family of ten children and was born in Jefferson County, Iowa, near Fairfield on January 4, 1852 and was 78 years old at his death. He came to Villisca in 1871 and made his home here continuously from that time until his death. He was married November 24, 1880 to Miss Lizzie Higgins at Clarinda and to them was born one son, Claude, of Riverside, California. Beside his wife and son, he leaves also an adopted daughter, Mrs. Carl Taylor of Villisca. The funeral was held Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the Wolfe & Gourley funeral home, with Rev. C. J. Ball in charge of the services. The pall bearers were L. C. and H. A. Poweres, Howard Decker, J. H. Kelley, Chas and Lum Higgins, and the singing was by A. f.
