Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Burial will be prior to the service Tuesday in Memory Gardens Cemetery. There will be a prayer service at 9:45 a.m Tuesday at the church. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center. Martin Wynia was born Feb. 23, 1924, to Frank and Johanna (Rodenburgh) Wynia, near Ireton, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm near Ireton and attended Center Township 5 rural school through the eighth grade. As a young man, he entered the U.S. Army in April 1945. He served his country during World War II, stationed in Japan for one year as a part of the U.S. Army occupation forces. He received his honorable discharge in November 1946 and returned home to continue farming. On April 20, 1947, he married Wilmina Ennema in Sioux Center. The couple made their home on the Wynia family farm until moving to their retirement home in Sioux Center in March 1997. He loved and served his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He cherished his family. He was fond of farm life. During his lifetime, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Mina, and spending time with his family. He was a faithful member of First Reformed Church, where he served both as a deacon and an elder. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and had served on the Rural Electric Cooperative board of directors. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Wilmina Wynia of Sioux Center; two daughters and their husbands, Gracia and Jim Vander Velde of Rock Valley, Iowa, and Elaine and Paul De Jong of Orange City, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Marvin and Esther Wynia of Ireton, Iowa, and Wilmer and Diane Wynia of Ireton; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Tena Wynia and Frances Wynia, both of Sioux Center; sisters-in-law, Arlene Wynia of Luverne, Minn., and Jean Wynia of Sheldon, Iowa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Andrew Brenneman, Art and Joan Brenneman, Herm and Adeline Brenneman, Bertha Vermeer, Don and Anna Mae Broek, all of Sioux Center; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and their wives, Louis and Ann Wynia and Cornie and Jeanette Wynia; a brother, Melvin Wynia; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Tracey Hoogland; brother-in-law, Harvey Vermeer; sister-in-law, Joan Brenneman; and an infant granddaughter.
