Read More	NICHOLS, MARVIN DEAN—Marvin Dean Nichols was born to Everett Earl and Florence Robbins Nichols on May 11, 1936, near Fairmont, and passed away on December 24, 1987, at the Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln at the age of 51 years, 7 months and 13 days. He was one of two children in the family. He attended District 18 rural school and Fairmont Grade and High School and then attended Doane College. Due to ill health, he discontinued farming with his father and brother, and became a John Deer implement dealer in March of 1968. He had seen the business grow from a small business located on the west side of the Geneva business district square, to a large business occupying the present facilities south of Geneva. In 1969, the family moved to Geneva where they continue to reside. Marvin was married to Marilyn Deanna Moore of Fairmont on July 19, 1959, and to them three children were born. In spite of his ill health and suffering much pain, Marvin maintained an enthusiastic attitude toward life. He had a deep concern for others. He enjoyed working with people, and the challenge of his job. He was proud of the progressive farmers he came to know through his business. He was a loving husband and father. His greatest joy was his children. He was proud of their achievements and was an active supporter of all their endeavors. Marvin and his crutches would be seen watching his children at basketball and football games, at music concerts and all school functions. Because he loved the land, he especially enjoyed gardening and caring for flowers. It was a source of relaxation for him to work in his backyard and enjoy the beauty that was the result of his work. Marvin joined the Fairmont Methodist Church on March 28, 1948. He was presently a member of the Geneva United Methodist Church, where he had served in many leadership capacities. He was currently serving as a vice president of the United Methodist Men. He had been a member of the Building Committee when the new church building was being constructed and built in 1976. He served on the Geneva School Board for two terms and was a member and past-president of the Geneva Rotary. He was a member of the Geneva Community Improvement Committee which was striving to make Geneva a better place to live, and worked with the committee during the time the Downtown Improvement Project was conceived and completed. Marvin is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Geneva; daughter, Beth S. of Englewood, Col.; sons, Scott W. and Todd A. of Geneva; parents, Everett and Florence Nichols of Fairmont; brother, Gene E. and wife, Marilyn, of Fairmont; parents-in-law, Kenneth and Arlene Moore of Fairmont; aunt, Mrs. Gilbert Scheef; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist church in Geneva on Monday, December 28, with the Rev. Cal Leeds officiating. Mrs. Norval Lomax accompanied Kelly Eich who sang “Amazing Grace” and the congregation who sang “As with Gladness Men of Old.” Pallbearers were Terry L. Bengtson, Jerry Galusha, Jeffrey P. Johnson, Gary L. Opfer, Roger Pittard and Gary Whiteley. Interment was in the Geneva public cemetery. The Nebraska Signal December 31st, 1987 page 5.
