'Mike' Luther The Fremont Tribune May 30, 1997 Marvin 'Mike' Luther The funeral for Marvin "Mike" E. Luther, 85, of Fremont will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. He died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, at Fremont Area Medical Center. Luther was born Feb. 4, 1912, on the family farm near Hooper. He grew up there and served in the United States Navy from February 1942 to October 1945. On his return from the service he was employed by Lewis Oil Co. in Fremont, and then by Hawkinson Tire and Tread until he retired in 1969. He was a member of Sinai Lutheran Church, in Fremont. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 854 and American Legion Post 20, both of Fremont. Survivors include three sisters, Fern Bopp of Fremont, Floma Schmietenknop of Greeley, Colo., and Twilla (Mrs. Glenn) Saalfeld of Sacramento, Calif. He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. The Rev. L. Dale Lund will officiate Saturday's service. Visitation is in progress at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont until 9 tonight. Burial will be at the Elim Lutheran cemetery in Swaburg. The Fremont Honor Guard of VFW Post 854 and the American Legion Post 20 will present the U.S. flag. A memorial has been established to Sinai Lutheran Church.
