Stoll February 17, 1932 – March 30, 2013 Marvin was born February 17, 1932, to Arthur and Amelia Stoll at home on the family farm in rural Lodgepole, NE. He spent most of his childhood in the Lodgepole and Chappell, NE area. During WWII his parents moved the family to Long Beach, CA for two years and then returned to NE where Marvin graduated from Chappell High School in 1949. He joined the USAF on April 3, 1951, and served in the Korean War. His permanent station was Lockbourne AFB (SAC), Columbus, OH and TDY duty in the United Kingdom where he received the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged from the USAF on December 21, 1953, with the rank of Staff Sergeant in Personnel. Marvin married Kareen Nelson on September 1, 1956, in Lincoln, NE. They had three children, Kathryn, Sandra and Ken. The family has lived in Grand Junction, CO for over 40 years. Marvin attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, NE and lettered in football and track; Ohio State University in Columbus, OH; and the University of Nebraska - Lincoln (NU) where he received his B.S. Degree in Geology. At NU he received a football scholarship and played one year of football. Upon graduation in 1957, he worked for Continental Oil Company for ten years as a geologist and geophysicist in exploration. During his ten years with Conoco, he and Karen moved 27 times and lived in nine different states from the Canadian border to the Gulf Coast. In 1967, he was employed by the Atomic Energy Commission in Grand Junction, CO as a geologist. He was responsible for the estimation of uranium reserves for mining districts from drill hole data supplied by companies. He retired in 1984. Marvin was a Past Exalted Ruler and District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler of the Grand Junction Elks Lodge #575. He was a member of the Grand Junction Kiwanis Club, GJ Geological Society, AIME and was on the Board of Directors for the Coloramo Federal Credit Union for 20 years. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved camping, hiking and snowmobiling at the family cabin at Arrowhead in Gunnison County. He also travelled with Kareen in their motor home from coast to coast and throughout Canada. He loved the Broncos, but enjoyed watching his Cornhusker Football team the most. Marvin is survived by his wife, Kareen; daughters, Kathryn (Paul) and Sandra (Steve); son, Ken (Mila); sisters, Bonnie and Florence, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Alberta and Verna; and brothers, Harold, Floyd and Virgil. He was a wonderful husband and father and this passing was unexpected. He is loved and will be missed by his family. A viewing will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Published in The Daily Sentinel on April 3, 2013
