Services were held July 17 at the Federated Church in Sutton with the Reverend Roddy Dunkerson officiating. Musicians were Donna Bauer and Shirley Syring, vocalists, and Betty Barbee, organist. Mr. Pope was born June 28, 1918, near Sutton to Adam and Minnie (Sterkel) Pope. His early years were spent on the farm south of Sutton and he attended rural school. Mr. Pope served in the United States Army during WWII. He married Margie Salmen on January 27, 1945 in Belleville, KS. They lived on a farm just west of Sutton until his death. He was a member of the Federated Church and the American Legion Post 61 of Sutton. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include in wife, Margie of Sutton, one daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Charles Langley of Greenville, MS; one son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Jacalyn Pope of York; two sisters, Hilda Joyce of Aurora and Josephine Yost of Hastings; one brother, Raymond Pope and Hastings, six grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Kohler Mortuary in Sutton was in charge of arrangements.
