Married Feb 7 1945. Parents of Phyllis, Patricia, Thomas, Ronald, Bonnie Marvin James Ham was born September 14, 1921 on a farm east of Solon, Iowa. He was the son of James and Margaret Zenisek Ham. He attended country school and then Solon High School and graduated with the class of 1939. Marvin exchanged marriage vows with Betty Zajicek on February 76, 1945 at St Mary's Catholic Church, Solon, Iowa. This union was blessed with five children, Phyllis, Patricia, Tom and twins, Ronnie and Bonnie. They enjoyed a normal rural life, engrossed in family, friends and the farm. He farmed 263 acres in partnership with his father for about 30 years. He raised the usual farm crops, corn, hay and oats and had a herd of purebred Guernsey cows for milking. In addition he raised Cheviot sheep and hogs for market. Marvin was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society of St Mary's, the C.O.F., the Moose Club and the Farm Bureau. He was also a school director of his district, even though the school building had burned down some time ago. In 1968 Marvin gave up farming and moved his family to Coralville. He became employed by the Iowa City Community School District as a custodian, and remained on the job for twenty three years. Marvin and Betty remained at their home in Coralville until 2002 when they both chose to become residents of the Solon Care Center. Marvin enjoyed life to its fullest. He enjoyed the outdoors ad in his younger years spent time fishing and hunting. His greatest love was his family. Spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was his whole world. Marvin J. Ham, 84, of Coralville died Sunday, November 20, 2005 at the Solon Care Center. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at Lensing's Oak Hill, Coralville. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery. Marvin is survived by his wife Betty of Solon; four children, Phyllis (Ronald) Meade and Tom (Sharon) Ham, both of Iowa City, Ron Ham of Coralville and Bonnie (Rick) Noel of Lone Tree; one son-in-law Gary Haman of Iowa City; twelve grandchildren, Chad (Alexandra), Laurie (Doug), Nicki, Michelle (Gabe), Lisa (Stev), Don, Michelle, Cari (Ben), Ashley, R.J., Jennifer (Scott) and Brian; eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Patricia (Ham) Haman and one daughter-in-law Dawn Ham, one granddaughter Merrick Ham, and three brothers George, Leo and Frankie.
