Son of Peter James Small and Cressa June Sanders OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, March 22, 2011 MARVIN LaVAUGHN SMALLL Marvin LaVaughn Small, age 92, of Chariton, Iowa, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Hospice Legacy Lodge in Chariton, Iowa. Marvin was born September 3, 1918 in Tioga, Iowa to June and Peter Small. Marvin graduated from Rosehill High School with the Class of 1936. He went into the military for five years, where he served in the Army during World War II. LaVaughn was united in marriage to Alta Ruth Weeks on July 17, 1943 in Marysville, California while serving his country. He and his wife traveled all over the United States, living in various places while he served in the Army. They then moved to Delta, Iowa where he farmed, then moved to Sigourney, Iowa and later to Chariton, Iowa where they made their permanent residence. LaVaughn is survived by his wife, Ruth, of 67 years; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Richard Nunemaker of Hiawatha, many other relatives and dear friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, June and Peter; mother and father-in-law, Charles and Alta Weeks; brothers-in-law, Lester Charles, George "Bud", Leroy Weeks and Wes Dloughly; several aunts and uncles; sisters-in-law, Hannah Weeks and Loretta Dloughly. Services were held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Fielding Funeral Home. Interment was in the Zion Cemetery near Williamson. Officiating was Pastor Paul Olson. Pallbearers were Bob Delpierre, Randy Mundy, Roger Wessel, Terry DeVore, Mike Wessel and Allen Nunemaker. Obituary courtesy of Charles M. Wright
