Schlesener, the son of Martin A. and Lydia Kent Schlesener, was born July 4, 1908, at Latimer. He married Marie Elizabeth Chalker Sept. 2, 1928, at Herington. she died July 17, 1984. Mr. Schlesener was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church. He also was a member of the Ball-McColm American Legion Post 5, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 2587 and Emporia Senior Citizen Club. He is survived by three sons, Howard Schlesener and Donald Schlesener of Reading and Calvin Schlesener of Wakarusa; five daughters, Ruth Holcomb and Velma Fowler of Emporia, Cordelia Seely of Kansas city, Barbara Crull of Arkansas City ad Mary Lou Blakley of Ponca City, Okla.; three brothers, Martin Schlesener of Emporia, Raymond Schlesener of Bushong and Elmer Schlesener of Burdick; 38 grand children, 71 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. a son, Kenneth Schlesener, died earlier. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Norbert Tegtmeier of Messiah Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Phillips Cemetery at Reading. Friends may call from7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions to the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University may be sent to the funeral home.
