Mary A Patterson. the daughter of James Hale, was born August 23,1830 in Jackson county, Ohio, and died at her home in Davis City, March 4, 1902, at the age of 71 years, 6 months and 11 days. Mrs. Patterson when quite young, moved with her parents to Marion county, Indiana,, where she married Andrew C. Jackson, in 1849. To Mr. and Mrs. Jackson were born, three sons and one daughter. The second son died in infancy. To this sorrow was added one still more intense by the death of Mr. Jackson, in 1854. This leaving the wife and mother, with the oldest son, Thomas C., who departed this life, May 31, 1890 and Mrs. Ruth E. Arnold, who still survives her. On May 12,1858, Mrs. Jackson married A. A. Patterson and moved to Galia county, Ohio. To Mr. and Mrs. Patterson were born three children, C. D. Patterson, of Marshal, Okla. Mrs. J. F. Parker, of Davis City and Lenna who died when but 2 1/2 years old. In 1805, Mr. and Mrs. Patterson and family moved from Ohio to Davis City, Iowa, where they have since lived. Mrs. Patterson was converted at the age of 16 and united with the M. E. church. After moving to Galia county, Ohio, she united with the Baptist church. Alter moving to Dayis City she joined the United Brethren church of which she remained a consistent member for 31 years to the time of her death. She afterwards said to her loved ones and others: "When I am gone do not weep for me for I am ready and anxious to go." Mrs. Patterson had been a great sufferer for nearly seven weeks before her death, yet she never murrnered, but submitted saying "It is best or it would not be so." For the last few years she, as many other old people, was unable to attend the public religious services, but her worn Bible tells of her faithfulness td her Heavenly Father. Those who knew her best, speak of her as a good and respected neighbor a helpful companion and faithful mother. Those of her immediate relatives surviving her are husband, three children, four stepchildren, three brothers, one sister and a number of grandchildren. She had reached her three score and ten years, and more had seen her troubles, had her joys and leaves much behind much that will tell for good as years come and go. Funeral held from the M.
