She had lived at Sunnyside Presbyterian Home since 1979. She was born Oct. 19,1898, a daughter of the late Jacob W. and Rachel Fleisher Hevener. Many of her ancestors were among the earliest settlers of Highland County. In 1920 she married John H. Stephenson and they resided in Alabama for a year. The Recorder April 17, 1992 Mrs. Mary Hevener Stephenson, 93, formerly of Meadowdale, died April 15, 1992 in Harrisonburg. She had lived at Sunnyside Presbyterian Home since 1979. She was born Oct. 19,1898, a daughter of the late Jacob W. and Rachel Fleisher Hevener. Many of her ancestors were among the earliest settlers of Highland County. In 1920 she married John H. Stephenson and they resided in Alabama for a year. Returning to Highland County, they were then lifelong residents of the county. Her husband died in 1965. Mrs. Stephenson attended Mary Baldwin College. She was a member of Pisgah Presbyterian Church where she served in many capacities. Her church was the center of her life and she had been honored by being awarded life membership in the Women of the Church. She was also a member of the Monterey Garden Club and they too, had given her life membership. Another great interest was her membership in the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Stephenson of Flint, Michigan and Mrs. Louisa Barry of Chapel Hill, N.C., and three grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by a number of devoted nieces and nephews, many of whom reside in Highland County. A grave side service will be conducted in the Monterey Cemetery at 2 p.m.
