Read More	Source: The Victor Record 12/2/1926 Obituary Mary Adelaide Hovey Mary Adelaide Hovey, daughter of Frederick and Julia Crane Hovey, was born in Thompson, CT., Feb. 15, 1848, and died Nov. 25, 1926. When she was six years old the family moved to Cleveland, OH., where she spent all of her girlhood. After one year in Vassar college - the first of its existence - she came with her parents, sister and brother to Iowa county, Iowa, and since that time (1866) she has lived in this state except for six years in Alabama. Her home has been in Iowa City, with her niece, for the past seven years. Always entertaining, always helpful, always hospitable, Miss Hovey had a wide circle of friends in spite of the comparative retirement of her home life. Although during the last few months she had been gradually fading in health, her interest in affairs and people around her was alert to her very last day. Both parents and a sister preceded Miss Hovey in death. The surviving relatives are her brother, Charles C. Hovey of Victor, and nieces,, Mrs. J. C. Mercer and three little daughters of Valley Junction, Mrs. C. E. Groff of Ottumwa, and Miss Alma B Hovey of Iowa City. Funeral services were held at the Beckman funeral home in Iowa City at 3 o'clock Nov. 27, the Rev. Russell Ross officiating. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Victor, Iowa, on Sunday, Nov. 28. Rev. G. A. Schmidt, pastor of the Victor M. E. church, conducted a brief service at the grave.
