Mr. Hovey was born in Thompson, Connecticut, October 2, 1849. Most of his childhood was spent in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Hovey was born in Thompson, Connecticut, October 2, 1849. Most of his childhood was spent in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1865 he came with his parents and sisters to the farm in Iowa County, which, except for a brief resided him in death in 1915. Three he moved to Victor in 1918. In 1891 he married Mary Alma Wilson of Belle Plaine. Mrs. Hovey preceded him in death in 1915. Three daughters, Alma B. Hovey of Iowa City, Mrs. J. S. Mercer of Victor and Mrs. C. E. Croff of Ottumwa, and three granddaughters, Mary, Phyllis and Marjie Mercer, survive. Funeral services were held February 2, at the home. Rev. O. E. McBride officiating, with burial in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Victor. The death of Mr. Hovey takes from Victor one of most respected. His face will be missed as he was a frequent visitor on the street and the memory of his friendship will linger long among those who were accustomed to greet him daily. The span of years over which his life elapsed was fruitful with success in business adventures and associations with his fellow men. As the page closes on life's book, his earthly journey ends, only to be recalled with favor among his friends.
