Mary Moore had a long career of business in Sheridan County - nine years as postmaster and manager of the Moore Hotel in McClusky. As a homesteader here in 1901, she is one of the pioneers of the McClusky community. She homesteaded on section 6 of Whittaker Township about 6 miles south of McClusky. Mary Moore, nee Cook, came to Eureka, S. D. with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cook, from Sioux City, Iowa in the fall of 1892. In the spring of 1893 the family moved to Emmons County, N. D. From Emmons County, the cook family moved to Wells County in 1896 where Mr. Cook homesteaded and farmed. In the spring of 1899 he built the first hotel and livery stable at Bowdon and also operated the mail between Bowdon and Fessenden. Later they ranched south of McClusky. Mary Cook and Ed X. Moore were married at the Methodist parsonage in Washburn, Sept. 15, 1901. They lived in Denhoff from 1902 until 1910 when they moved to McClusky. Mrs. Moore was appointed postmaster at Denhoff in June 1904. She served there until June 1911. The Moore Hotel of McClusky was started in the year 1913 and Mrs. Moore operated that business continuously for 34 years. Mrs. Moore also owned and operated a millinery shop at McClusky from 1920 to 1926. She has been a member of the following local organizations; Royal Neighbors, 1911; Methodist ladies aid; American Legion Auxiliary after World War I, serving two years as president. She was a member of the local chapter Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include; Dr. Merle, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Ned, of Henderson, Nevada. Seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Taylor Cook, Sentinel Butte, N. D., John Cook, MEchanicsville, I. A., a sister, Mrs. Francis Baas, Seattle, Wash.
