CROSS ANCHOR, SC - Deceased Monday, February 9, 2009 at 91, Mrs. Brewington passed away at Mary Black Hospital in Spartanburg, SC following a period of declining health. She was a native of Cross Anchor in Spartanburg County. She was the wife of the late I. E. Brewington, Jr., with whom she shared 53 years of marriage. Mrs. Brewington was predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David G. Bailey, also of Cross Anchor. Mrs. Brewington was a life-long member of New Hope Baptist Church and prior to her passing was the oldest member. She led an active church life and served in various capacities throughout her lifetime. She lived her life as an open testimony to her faith. Mrs. Brewington was employed by the US Postal Service as the postmaster of the Cross Anchor, SC post office. She served in this capacity for 47 years before retiring in 1992. Through this job she became friends with the entire community. Mrs. Brewington is survived by two loving sons: Steve Brewington of Cross Anchor, SC and Barry Brewington and his wife, Patricia, of Mooresville, NC. She is also survived by a loving granddaughter, Bailey Brewington of Asheville, NC. Additionally, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their respective families. The visitation will be on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Forest Hills Funeral Home located at 6995 Highway 101 in Woodruff, SC. The funeral service will be held at New Hope Baptist Church in Cross Anchor on Thursday, February 12 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Dr. James T. Sloan, Rev. Jerry Lawson and Rev. Carrol Caldwell will be officiating. The internment will follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, also in Cross Anchor. The family is at the home of the deceased.
