Mary Alice Carson was born at Edgar, Nebraska, November 1, 1879 to James W. and Adalia M. Carson. She grew to womanhood at Edgar. April 25, 1901, she was married to Thomas A. Patton at Beatrice, Neb. Patton passed away at the Moore Nursing Home in Fairmont, Neb., Friday morning, February 3, 1967, after an extended illness. She was a little past 87 years of age. Mary Alice Carson was born at Edgar, Nebraska, November 1, 1879 to James W. and Adalia M. Carson. She grew to womanhood at Edgar. April 25, 1901, she was married to Thomas A. Patton at Beatrice, Neb. The Carson and Patton families were among the early day settlers in that area. Mr. and Mrs. Patton resided a few months in Beatrice, Mr. Patton being in the employ of the Burlington railroad, with which he started work in 1899. They then lived at Edgar until 1906, when the family moved to Fairmont, where Mr. Patton was employed many years on the Fairmont-Endicott line. Mrs. Patton has resided in Fairmont 61 years. For many years Mrs. Patton was active in the Presbyterian church in Fairmont and later in the Federated church, in which she still held membership. Until her health began to fail, she served as a Sunday school teacher and was active in the Woman's Society. She had been a faithful member of the Fairmont Rebekah Lodge 56 years, being the lodge's oldest member. She had also been a member of the Royal Neighbors and the Good Will Kensington. Mrs. Patton's greatest interests were her home and her family. She was preceded in death by her husband in November, 1958, her parents and two brothers. She is survived by a son, Charles of Hastings; three daughters, Mrs. Warren (Adalia) Sanburn of Crete, Mrs. Gailard (Jessie) Philson of Fairmont and Mrs. Wayne (Margaret) Garrett of Lincoln; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Kritner-Farmer Funeral Home in Fairmont at 2 p.m., Monday, February 6, Rev. Delano Spitzer of the Geneva Congregational church officiating. Oliver Moul sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," with Mrs. Roland Hall as accompanist. Pallbearers were William Boren, Alfred Jorgensen, Ralph Keil, Hubert McClellan, Lee Roth and Francis Schepers. The Rebekah memorial service was given at the funeral home. Interment was in the Fairmont cemetery.
