Obituary From “Ottumwa Daily Courier,” Monday, June 15, 1959: Mrs. Erb, 80, Dies While On A Visit Mrs. Mary Alice Erb, 80, died Sunday at 8:30 p.m. in the Bethany hospital in Kansas City, Kan. She was taken ill while visiting her daughter in Kansas City, Mo., and had entered the hospital Thursday. Born March 8, 1879 in Davis county, she was the daughter of George and Martha Johnson. She had lived in Ottumwa for 70 years and for the last 19 years she had made her home with her son, George Erb and family, at 1311 Steller avenue. She was married to Albert M. Erb on June 8, 1896 [sic], in Ottumwa. He preceded her in death as did one son, one daughter, one brother, four sisters and five grandchildren. Surviving besides her son with whom she made her home are her daughter, Mrs. Elsie Fugett of Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Pearl Lee of Ottumwa, S.D.; six grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. The body will arrive Tuesday morning and will be taken to the Reece funeral home to await completion of funeral arrangements. “Erb Service,” From “Ottumwa Daily Courier,” Tuesday, June 15, 1959: Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Alice Erb, 80, 1311 Steller avenue, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Reece funeral home. The Rev. Lester Greenwood, pastor of the Wesley Methodist church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Shaul cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lester, Wilbur, Dale and Vernon Randolph, Earl Carnes and Grover Caster. Mrs. Erb died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the Bethany hospital in Kansas City, Kan. She had been visiting a daughter in Kansas City, Mo., and had been a patient in the hospital since Thursday.
