Description	:	OBITUARY - Mary Alice Heldge, also known as "Mamie", the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rombeck, was born near Marysville, Kansas in Marshall County, Dec. 16, 1885, and passed away at the Sheridan County Hospital, Hoxie, Kansas, on Nov. 17, 1973 at the age of 87 years, 11 months and one day. She lived on a farm near Home City, Kansas during her girlhood and attended schools in Marshall County. Mary was a very successful rural school teacher, teaching nine terms in that county. She lived on a farm near Home City, Kansas during her girlhood and attended schools in Marshall County. Mary was a very successful rural school teacher, teaching nine terms in that county. Mary was married to John H. Hedge, Feb. 1, 1915 at Beattie, Kans. Their first home was near Summerfield, Kans. They later moved to Winifred, Kans., where her devoted husband owned and operated a hardware store and where six of their eight children were born. In 1924, they moved to the Hedge homestead six miles north of Studley, Kans. where two more children were born. This is where the family endured the hardships and pleasures of life. But regardless of depression, drouth and dust storms Mary never complained and lived by her good faith. She was a member of the Catholic church at New Almelo, Sequin, and later at St. Frances Church, Hoxie. Two sons, Merle and Clarence lived on the farm with their mother and gave her their loving care which she so deeply appreciated. She wanted to remain on the farm with them. Her wishes were granted by her sweet ways and their patience and care. All seven of her sons fought for the defense of their country. Six of them in World War II and one served in the Korean War and all of them returned safely. She took pleasure in her family, grandchildren, other relatives and friends. The clubs which she belonged and enjoyed were the Bowcreek E.H.U. and the Thimble Circle Club. She leaves to mourn her eight children; Merle and Clarence of the home; one daughter (Marie) Mrs. David Schlingloff, Hill City, Kans., Harold of Ellis, Kans., Maurice of Colby, Kans.; Frank of Stratford, Conn.; Howard of Hutchinson, Kans., and Duane of Studley, Kans., two sisters (Alberta) Mrs. Tom Ryan, Frankfort, Kans., Miss Frances Rombeck, Frankfort, Kans.; two brothers, John Rombeck, San Bernardino, Calif., and David Rombeck, Red Key, Ind.; four sisters-in-law; 20 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; five daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband John, three sisters and two brothers. Wake and Rosary services were held at St. Frances Church, Hoxie, at 8:00 p.m. Nov. 20, 1973 and the Funeral Mass was celebrated by Rev. Albert Dwyer on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 1973 at 11 a.m. Interment was in the St. Frances Cemetery. Casket bearers were Donald Niblock, Clarence Jones, Harold Richards, Gerald Brewster, Clifford Karnes and Clarence Mowry. Annabelle Ostmeyer was the organist and vocalist. A memorial is being established for the St. Frances Building Fund, Hoxie.
