Mary Almira Silbaugh Smyth, last of a family of eight children, born to Isaac and Electa Harrison Silbaugh, Dec. 17, 1871, in Jasper County near Springfield, Mo. When seven years old, she with her parents and two brothers came from Viroqua, Wis., in a covered wagon and settled in Kendrick Township where she received her education and later taught school. She died at Greene County Hospital June 26 at the age of 93 years, six months and nine days. On Oct. 23, 1894, she was united in marriage to Robert H. Smyth. Together they served pastorates in Free Methodist Church for 12 years until her husband's health failed, he being a member of this church for 80 years. Her husband died May 15, 1921. To this union were born two children, Grace of Churdan and Bernard of Anaheim, Calif. Besides her children and grandson Lowell of Visalia, Calif., and four grandchildren, her step-daughter, Mrs. Nellie Marsh and her family of Santa Monica, Calif. Also one broter [sic]-in-law, Noah Richards, of Woodward, Mrs. Bertha Silbaugh of Ralston, Mrs. Lettie Silbaugh of Churdan, Mrs. Jessie Silbaugh of Humboldt and Mrs. Ruby Silbaugh of Scranton, nieces and nephews.
