Description	:	Mrs. William (Mary Amelia) Maas passed away at the Cass County Memorial Hospital late Tuesday evening, May 15, 1984 and was a resident of Heritage House in Atlantic for eight years. Mary Amelia Maas, daughter of John and Rosina Metzger Mehlmann was born on February 29, 1884 on a farm near Massena and entered into rest at the age of 100 years, 2 months, and 16 days. Read More	Mrs. William (Mary Amelia) Maas passed away at the Cass County Memorial Hospital late Tuesday evening, May 15, 1984 and was a resident of Heritage House in Atlantic for eight years. Mary Amelia Maas, daughter of John and Rosina Metzger Mehlmann was born on February 29, 1884 on a farm near Massena and entered into rest at the age of 100 years, 2 months, and 16 days. On December 22, 1909, she was united in marriage to William Fred Maas and they made their home on a farm northeast of Massena where they spent their entire married life. To this union three sons and one daughter were born. Services were held on Friday, May 18, 1984 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Massena with Dr. James Seeber officiating. Music at the service was by Veronica Lary, pianist, and Barbara Wollenhaupt, vocalist, with selections, "How Great Thou Art" and "In the Garden." In charge of the floral arrangements were Eugene (Lefty) Williams and wife, Mary, Charlotte Garside and Jean Henkenius. Mrs. Maas was fortunate to be able to maintain her own home until the age of 92 when a fall forced her to move to Heritage House where her love touched many hearts. She had many interests in life which were her home, children, grandchildren and her great love for working in the soil with flowers, gardens and her love for cooking. Her grandchildren will always remember Grandma's full cookie jar awaiting their visits. Until her eyes failed her, recently, she could always be found crocheting and embroidering many beautiful things fro her family and friends. Her philosophy was always to keep your hands busy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William; an infant son; two sisters, Barbara Harris and Lillian Bower; three brothers, Otto, Henry, and John and a son-in-law, Oscar Aupperle. Surviving are a daughter, Ellen Aupperle, of rural Massena; two sons, Marion Maas and wife Ruth of Mason, Iowa and John Maas and wife Lenora of Atlantic. Also, eight grandchildren: Denny Maas, Cheryl Dawson, Randy Maas, Donna Claussen, Raymond Aupperle, Ronald Aupperle, Virginia Thomas and Ardith Moritz. There were fourteen great-grandchildren. Casket bearers were Rex Whitaker, Charles Scase, Collins Bower, George Garside, Gerald Wollenhaupt, and George N. Scase III. Lunch was served at the Pine Grove Methodist Church Hall following the interment at Massena Center Cemetery with the Gauthier Funeral Home of Massena and Corning in charge of the arrangements.
