Description	:	William Frederick Maas, son of Henry and Caroline (Kuesel) Maas, was born October 4, 1883, on the family farm northeast of Massena. William and Mary Amelia Mehlmann were united in marriage on December 22, 1909. She was born February 29, 1884, the daughter of John and Rose (Metzer) Mehlmann. They had a double ring ceremony with Mary's sister, Barbara, and Austin Harris. William and Mary farmed their entire lives on the family farm northeast of Massena. William and Mary Amelia Mehlmann were united in marriage on December 22, 1909. She was born February 29, 1884, the daughter of John and Rose (Metzer) Mehlmann. They had a double ring ceremony with Mary's sister, Barbara, and Austin Harris. William and Mary farmed their entire lives on the family farm northeast of Massena. This was declared a "Century Farm" in the early 1980s. In 1912, the Maas family purchased their first car, a Detroiter. They were also the first family in Massena township to purchase a tractor. William and Mary were the parents of four children, Irwin, dying in infancy, and Marion, John, and Ellen. Marion was born May 29, 1912, on the family farm and continued to help with the farming until 1945, when he moved to Manson, Iowa with his wife, Ruth (Sticken) Maas, and two daughters, Virginia and Ardith. Ellen, born on July 26, 1915, a graduate of Massena High School, was married to Oscar Aupperle. They farmed all their lives in the Massena area with their three children, Raymond, Ronald, and Donna. John, born March 28, 1921, married Lenora Wolford, and they remained on the family farm with their three children, Cheryl, Dennis, and Randy. Mary lived to be 100 years of age. A birthday celebration was held for her with all her friends and relatives helping her celebrate. This was held at Heritage House in Atlantic, where Mary lived for eight years. Mary died on May 15, 1984. William had died in 1970.
