Mary Ann married Joseph Spencer May, the son of Patrick May and Catherine Spence, sometime between 1850-1852. They were the parents of six known children: Sarah Catherine (b. 1852), William Curtis (b.1854), Robert J. (b. 1856), John Thomas (b.1860), Joseph Samuel (b. 1862) & George C. (b. 1866). According to the Civil War Draft Records, Joseph enlisted into the Union Army on 1 July 1863. By 1870, Joseph was remarried to Lydia Schuler and their first child, David Leander May, was born 24 May 1871 in Putnam County, Ohio. This would indicate that Mary Ann died sometime between George's birth in January 1866 and 1870. According to May family records, she was buried in Perry Family Cemetery which is located in Adams County, Ohio near Hamer, Ohio. Locust Grove Cemetery is not far from Hamer Township in Highland County and has several individuals with the last name Perry interred there; however, based on the family's records, it is more likely Perry Family Cemetery was smaller and located on a farm or residence out in the country closer to Liberty Township where my cousin Mary died.
