Parmley, Mary Ann Mrs. B. D. Parmley of Rock Creek Township committed suicide by cutting her throat with a razor, last Monday. She had done the washing in the forenoon. When her husband came home at the noon hour for dinner, he was startled to learn that his wife had not been seen since about 11 o’clock, and immediately began a search for her. About 2 o’clock her lifeless body was found in a grove only a short distance from the house her throat being cut from ear to ear, and a razor lying beside her. The shock was a terrible one to the husband and children. Coroner Reynolds and a jury composed of J. W. Burke, A. B. Craven and W. C. Kimberly, held an inquest, their verdict being that the deceased met death by her own hands. She leaves behind a husband and ten children. She is highly spoken of by all her neighbors as an excellent woman. For some time she had seemed despondent, but no one dreamed of insanity in her case. She had an excellent husband and home with comfort. About five years ago a son was killed on the Railroad at Dixie a sorrow from which she never rallied. The funeral occurred Tuesday at Rock Creek Cemetery. The Newton Record, Thursday, September 8, 1898 Page 4, Column 2 Murphy. Word comes that during a fit of melancholy on last Monday, Mrs. Brack Parmley of Rock Creek Township took her own life, almost severing her head from her body with a razor.
